PENITENTIARY POLICY

For ICPALA, penitentiary policy requires a humanistic definition based on respect for human rights in order to break with the idea that prison or penitentiary environments are inevitably detrimental to human dignity, or worse still, punitive environments for those deprived of liberty that only imply an additional penalty to the court sentence. For this reason, we promote:

  1. Improving living conditions in prisons. Possibilities and implementation of studies in terminal cycles.
  2. The concretization and consolidation of productive work.

  3. The recreational occupation of free time.

  4. Physical activity and sport as vehicles for the physical and mental health of prisoners.

Under these principles, we believe in social reintegration as the ultimate goal of prison sentences and conditions that, combined with dignified treatment, break the generation of social resentment with which prison sentences are normally carried out.
